Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

It's a credit to you mate, a lot would have thrown in the towel a long time ago, so you're not going with a vinyl roof then. You know mate I love a vinyl roof and that was the initial intention but as the build’s progressed Iv slowly moved away from it and think this particular car will be without ...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

Wowza! Last update was in July. That means two things… I’m getting old fast, and chargers progressing slowly! So things have been crazy busy. I sent myself on a fast track engine course, and even ended up working in an aircraft hanger doing all kinds of engineering tasks. Carrying out 75 hour, 150 h...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

Superb and well thought-out work as ever. Don't lose heart - you have done an amazing job! Thank you, Pete. And I must also thank you for taking the time to talk with me at shows and share your wonderful Mopar stories and experiences. Can’t lose heart now mate, I’m in way to deep, financially, emot...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

Here is a bunch of pics (a collage, if you will 😂) that depict things that have been done but not mentioned here, moments in time and just a quick browse through my iPad pics that I thought would be fun to show. There is so much work that goes into this that honestly it’s not possible to mention eve...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

Next up, I felt the need to do some upgrading on the deck filler panel. The AMD version seems to be more “rounded” along the edge when compared to the original. This always bugged me. When many of you guys see me at car shows staring for hours at your cars and wondering what the crazy lunatic has be...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

No on to a few panel issues… So on an factory “original” charger, the valance corners are (mostly) ice and tight to the rear valance, however I often see on cars that have had panels replaced, this gap seems to be bigger. I wanted to get these valances as tight as originals so a little cutting and w...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

I spent a week on stripping and priming the engine bay. The monotonous and ball breaking work here was not fun. I needed to remove all of the old paint and primer. I went through orange, green black and primer. This car has been many colours in its life, and even at this point we don’t know what her...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

So I have been off the radar here, but incredibly busy nevertheless. I have been learning skills I may never have to use again, and doing what I can to save pounds and pennies where possible. I know that is not what fellow Mopar enthusiasts like to hear when restoring a car such as a charger but I a...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

yeah but pointless bulding a motor and trans if at the time you don't know if you will have a car or just a pile of rust to put it in.... i can see sense in the order taken here.... :) Dave This is exactly why it went the way it did. I had no V5 and rotten remains of a charger! really wanted to hav...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

Do you have a mechanical fuel pump? We had a mix of fuel and oil in the sump on what was a relatively new engine. One of the things we didn't change though, was the mechanical fuel pump. The diagnosis was that the diaphragm in the fuel pump had split / deteriorated and let fuel through :thumbright:...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

Given how long the car has been sitting I would just change the fuel pump as a matter of course, if the diaphragm isn’t knacked already it can’t be much longer for this world. For the same reasons I would go through the engine and trans as a matter of course also, I appreciate right now you just wa...

Re: Restoration thread 1969 St Albans charger

I would have pulled the motor long ago and stripped it. Probably the Trans too. I am sure you do not want to hear that. Good luck with the car - you have come such a long way with it, I am confident you will beat all the gremlins.. No mate you speak the truth. In and amongst the excitement of ownin...
