Main seal leak sorted. Thanks to Dave B and others here for advice provided. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like through headers and a 2.25" stainless system I recently ordered...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Next question - the workshop guys are going to run the engine (at idle speed) on their test rig, to see if they have resolved the main seal leak, before putting the engine back in the car. They are currently considering how best to start the engine on the test rig. Obvious option is to hook up the A...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Thanks again for the advice Dave - will set the seals in the block and retainer with silicone as you suggest. I inspected the seal area myself last Friday and it didn’t look like the seal halves had been installed with a slight rotational offset so the seal and block/retainer joins are not aligned. ...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Thanks Dave, nice numbers! We inspected my 383/432 stroker yesterday. No obvious reason for the main seal oil leak, but it is a bad leak (see photo below from the dyno session). The guys noticed that the Fel-pro rubber main seal had left a mark on the crankshaft journal surface. Is this cause for co...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
We’re going to inspect the seal when we get the engine back from the dyno and, in particular, check whether the seal groove in the block is machined equidistant either side of the crank centreline. If not, we might struggle to get a good seal with one of the new wider retainers, which offer less sco...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Hi Pete
It’s a 5 quart sump (one in the filter, 4 in the pan), I think it’s the 402 style.
Best wishes,
Nigel

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Thanks for the advice chaps. My A727 has been rebuilt so I’m confident it’ll handle the extra torque and power, what I meant was that it might kickdown before I get anywhere near 6000rpm and, with 2.88:1 gears i might struggle to get to 6000rpm in top gear while keeping my licence 😈 I bought the hig...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
I think my slight disappointment with the power figure stems largely from the factory 335hp rating for the 4-bbl HP 383. But it seems this figure is more hope than reality, and that from factory 260hp peak was more realistic. So I should be happy with a 50% increase to 379hp! Plus 450lbs/ft of torqu...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Just got the dyno results back from Peter Knight. Please see the below. To be honest I'm a bit disappointed with the power, was hoping for mid to high 400s. A quick reminder of the spec: 383 stroked to 432 with 0.030" over pistons Ported 906 heads with 2.14" intake valves Head gasket selec...

Re: 1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Slow but steady progress. All the required parts sourced from the States, engine stripped, block dipped and sent off for reboring. Thinking ahead, I’ll want the rebuilt engine tuned and dyno’ed so I have a power and torque curve to give to Burns Stainless so they can design my custom headers (none o...

1969 Jensen Interceptor drivetrain upgrade
Dear All I’m just about to start a rebuild of the 383 HP engine in my 1969 Jensen Interceptor. My objective is to end up with a “polite” engine for the street consistent with the GT nature of the car, with a reasonable idle and enough vacuum for the brakes, and a 15-25% increase in power and torque ...
