Re: Don Shumacher passed away

More memories of the Funny Cars at Santa Pod in ‘73…. These were the first Funny Cars to arrive in the UK, and everyone wanted them to run side by side. Paula Murphy wasn’t keen on the idea though.. (Don Schumacher was a nutter, he would get on it no matter what). They did pair up just once but Paul...

Re: Don Shumacher passed away

Prior to the arrival of the two Funny Cars in 1973. Bob Phelps sponsored Dennis ‘Stormin’ Norman’s twin engine Triumph and the ‘Pegasus’ Vincent boys to compete at the 1970 US Nationals at Indianapolis. On their return Bob Phelps asked them their thoughts on bringing an American Top Fuel car over to...

Re: Don Shumacher passed away

When Don Schumacher made his first run in Stardust the crowd went wild, but it was all over so quick. He was used to lining up waiting for his turn, quick burn out, stage, and go. The track owner, Bob Phelps, had to ask him to take as long as he likes and make a show of it… UK fans had never seen an...

I was there when their cars arrived at Santa Pod. Stardust had Pan Am Air Freight shipping documents still on the car.
Don Schumacher and Paula Murphy put on a fantastic show.

Pete Norman's 318 Volvo

Does anyone on here remember this car.... During the 1970's I worked with Pete. One evening in 1979 driving a 1972 Dodge Challenger he took out a tall lamppost on the A40 Western Avenue near Ruislip with the car ending up on its roof totally destroyed. We brought the wreck back to his place and took...

Re: Mopar Nationals USA Videos

Several more added. I've run out of time today, only one left (1997 USA Nat's). Ill put that one up tomorrow. I hope some of you enjoy these videos. The Mopar Nat's in the USA is not as big or as crazy as it used to be. The era through the 90's and early 2000's was its heyday. Brice Road will probab...

Mopar Nationals USA Videos

Between 1993 and 2003 I made videos of the Mopar Nationals at Indianapolis Indiana, then at Columbus Ohio. I was there most years. I haven't seen most of these videos for over 20 years. I have recently had them all converted to mp4 and started to upload them to You Tube. I've started with the last o...

Re: Identification Tag

Sometimes tags are used to identify the part on the production line, as Blue said, usually indicating the last two digits of the part number. In this case, 52 is the K-frame code found on the Broadcast sheet. Part number for 1970 318,340,383 1970 E-body K-frame is 3583052. The same frame was used on...

When I met Shirley Muldowney

In 1982 I went to the NHRA Springnationals at National Trail Raceway in Ohio. I was rummaging around some of my old photo's and found this one I took of Shirley Muldowney. This was late in the day after the qualifying runs. I was walking around the Top Fuel pits and stopped to look at Shirley's pink...

Re: Mopar EuroNationals 27/28/29 July. Santa Pod Raceway

My first time to Euro Nats and Santa Pod. Drove 3 hours to get there on Sunday, we turned up and the racing was cancelled. So we had a burger, looked at a few wet cars, got back in our car and drove the 3 hour journey home. Not a great day. Shame that Santa Pod couldn’t have mentioned it was cancel...
