Re: Brush on engine paint

Here's my experience - recently rebuilt a Ch*vy. Heads were done first with VHT aerosol engine paint (2 coats) , block was done with POR brush on (one coat). Was done during summer temps. Engine's been running about 5 months now. Block still looking fresh, heads less so. If I was to do this again I ...

Have a look at Honest John - the Daily Telegraph's motoring correspondent - he has his own website with loads of reviews.

Re: Summit delivery FedEx tax

I would check carefully even if you do find out its genuine. My experience of FedEx is not great - the calcs are sometime wrong, the phone service is non-existent since Covid (been in the queue for over an hour), email is poor too and if you do query a bill through the web channel provided they don'...

Re: car identification again

Definitely a 59 Pontiac. It's the Safari (Pontiac's name for the wagon). Full size models were either Bonneville, Star Chief or Catalina in descending order. Hard to tell which it is from that photo, they differed in trim and you really need to see the side view to be sure.

Re: Hoses

Thanks Stu, low speed / idle cooling issues would deffo be improved by a fan shroud. This is the time that you are relying on your fan to draw cooling air through the rad, rather then forward motion forcing air through the rad. Obviously doesn't discount other things causing the overheat e.g. timing...

Re: Hoses

First thing - is your overheating at speed or idle? This could point to different problems and different solutions. Second, that fan isn't doing much without a shroud, its too far away from the core to be drawing a lot of air. You definitely need a fan shroud, it makes a big difference. Without a fa...

Don't whether it meets your 'cheap' barometer but I get most of my metal from here. Good service.

Re: Engine load leveler advice

As a concept these are good thing, I have one and have used it to move engines in and out. They make the job easier no doubt. I have a Clarke/Machine Mart one - www.machinemart.co.uk/p/cll500-load-leveller Pros - It works as intended, cheaper than Sealey (currently £36), does the job. Cons - Handle ...

Re: Rock Autos inport VAT help

I've ordered from RockAuto plenty of times in the past, never had an issue. Recently ordered something (via FedEx option) with charges pre-paid and RockAuto took the payment inc charges. But on arrival in the UK, I also got a demand from Fed-Ex asking for £4 plus £10 admin fee - I've queried it but ...

Re: Santa Pod update 10th June 2020 - bad news....

Very sad news, the family all look forward to Euronats, we've been attending for years. We are where we are tho', so what about trying to get something positive out of the cancellation? What about making up some special merchandise for the 'Euronats that never was' - it would have some rarity value ...

Re: Pension Advice Needed

I have a SIPP (self invested pension plan) and an ISA with Hargreaves Lansdown. Been with them for around 15 years. I moved my private pension money from a pension that was being managed by a well known high street bank for 10 years and was doing nothing. I did some homework, opened a SIPP and made ...
