Engine sounded fit,just had no torque,might have worked with a 10"convertor

I tried 1.6crane rocker arms on a 440 for my old mans charger,484 cam,9.0:1 compression,11"convertor and 3.91 gears,the car was very lame,wouldnt even spin the tyres so I put on stock stamped steel gear and it was a different animal,ran mid 13s,certainly on this combo,they didnt work.

Rebuild your 383,a nice combo of parts is enough to run 13s although it does cost the same as building a 440 which youd get another 50 or 60hp.
I ran a 493stroker 440 for 4 years,made 650hp/650 torque with no problems.

MICK,The brake light wiring goes throught the indicator switch if it still as red indicators if this is any help.

With 98 mph you should be able to run 13.2s with every thing perfect.391s are a good choice,use a convertor around 2800stall or a 10"3500 stall for more serious effort,gonna need soft tyres or better yet slicks,reckon thatll do it,easy mid 13s.

Got the Ral colour card against small part of the block today,and like you say Latil,its poppy red/orange,ordered paint from that.

Got block back from machine shop,now its clean and the loose red paints fallen off,this engine was definatley orange,the heads,sump etc are orange,despite what Ive read regarding 69 273 being red,going to paint it orange,any ideas why this engine wasnt painted the correct red originally.
