From what I’ve read since I posted this thread it seems that the traditional approach to monitoring spark plug performance by colour has been made largely redundant due to the way new fuels burn.
That said, if it’s claggy, covered in oil and don’t fire, yer motors still knackered

It’s more spendy, but I can highly recommend a solid state voltage regulator for your set up. This week I have been mostly fitting carpet. And just enjoying driving it.

May not apply, but on my Coronet I replaced the old VR with a solid state version. Night and day change. Charges at near 14 volts. Really chuffed with it.
