Yeah do that Miles, you may well be surprised at the amount of vac your engine can produce at low RPM's & little load. My 850 Speed Demon has IdlEze but it tuned fine without it. Try winding the adjuster right down & install a 9.5/10.5 whatever PV as Blue suggests........... he's always righ...

I'm with Dunc, if you're not goin to lean on it & want a perfect low rpm signal for impeccable road manners stick with a 600/650cfm

All carbs work and can be tuned to work, but a carb is a constant compromise by its nature & you need to decide exactly what you want from your car.

It wouldn't have made much difference with halogen lamps, that wide flat conn block at the base of the column is a Bananarama! for burning up connectors :roll:

If the car drives nice, don't stink or make your eyes water, starts nice from cold, don't use too much fuel......... The leave it. If you haven't already done so drop in some fresh plugs, put in a new air filter element, new points, cap, rotor, leads. Check voltage at coil to make sure your not losi...

Make sure the timing, vac & mech advance is spot on before you touch the carb.
Check the air filter too.

Those AFBs are a piece of pi55 to work on.
