1970 Hemi Challenger - where is it now?

Post by SAV@RPM »

Going through our old photographs we came across this sad looking Hemi Challenger. Chatting to Tony Dickson he thinks he had dealings with it back in Feb '81; the VIN no. is JS23R0B204006 - the photograph looks like it was taken a few years after '81
Does anybody out there in Mopar land know what happened to this now very desirable vehicle.

Tony Oksien (did you mean Tony Oksien Martin?) may know what happened to this car?

I know Richard Ward saw it many years ago. A dealer had it somewhere in the Goldhawk Road area of West London. I think the colour is actually EK2 Go-Man-Go (not Hemi Orange). It was in good condition.

It just seemed to disappear who knows where? I reckon someone bought it and has kept quiet about it ever since...

Bet that went back to the States. Not many people over here could sit on a toy that was probably fetching the price of a decent semi back in the day.
Cars of that caliber have been attracting big money since the early 80's and it was usually only the American collectors that had the funds.

I bet it's been restored like new and is sitting in some heated garage somewhere.

There is however still a dealer on the Goldhawk road by the roundabout with Askew road
he seems to specialise in less desirable cars based on what he puts out on the road/ footpath.

never been in

never felt the urge for a mid 80s buick

Sorry, that post is a little confusing as Tony Dickson sadly passed away in late 2001. I actually found a fax from Tony dating from the late nineties while going through some old papers with that photo attached.
It appeared that Tony imported the car around Feb 1981 and sold it for around £4000. He kept a record of the vin # and the price but not who he sold it to !

I remember going to the Chelsea cruise in the early eighties and seeing a Challenger that looked just like this car. I never actually saw it on the road but in an underground car park opposite the Prince Albert pub on Parkgate Road. The car park had a wire mesh gate so we could never actually get to the car. It never seemed to move month to month. Just wonder if it was this car?

think there was a orange hemi challenger , ( not sure if it was a real R code ) at sunshine classics or sunstate classics , back in the early 90s , think they listed a Daytona too & six pack cars , not sure if these were still in the us or not , they use to advertise in classic American , every month then , might even of been street machine too , cant check , have given all magazine collections away now :? .

If you happen to know the registration number it can't hurt to try it in the new online MOT history checker or the DVLA vehicle enquiry system?

It was sunshine classics , my brother got a 72 Trans Am from him in 89 , that was the first time I ever went in a Hemi powered car - he had a yellow 70 Cuda for sale which was a factory V code but had a Hemi swapped in with a 4 speed - it was a high point for me at the time when I was 13 years old when he dropped the clutch at about 5k ( probably still is a high point ) I think it was about £16k so a lot of money back then - I think his name was Steve - he ended up moving to Florida and ran the same business in Kissimmee.
