A Hillman Avenger... Not a high point for Mopar. There was also an appalling Avenger Tiger which was pretty awful too.

My first Yank motor was an AMC Javelin, quite similar back half.

But look at it in context, I'd probably have preferred it over an Escort back in the day, and certainly to the Marina that I had as a spotty oik....

Out of the 3,the Escort was the only one any good. That's why prices for them are so high nowadays.

What was so bad about the Avenger? I didn't think they were any worse than the Fords and Vauxhalls of the time.

I had, briefly,an Avenger. Very heavy, hard to work on due to typical over complicated engineering, awkward to get to bolts etc and not very hot on the handling front either. The Escort with Mc Pherson struts beat the others for handling and simplicity. They all rusted as bad as each other though. The Marina was a pile of junk full stop. Vauxhall Viva, not to bad, lacked performance, the MK1 Cavalier was better.
