St Albans - rotting 69 charger ?

Post by morgan »

Anyone know the story of this ? Noticed it a while ago and out of curiosity snooped it on streetview.
Poor old thing !

Look like it arrive sometime between Jun11 and Aug12.
Sat under a tarp until sometime between Jun17 and Jun18.
Tarp now gone, weather taking it back to dust... Last pic Mar19.

Seems an odd decision. Anyone know the backstory ?

£15K for a rotten one ? eek. Seems a strange investment - I'd at least find somewhere dry for it if I was looking to cash in at some point...

Pops up on facebook for sale or just 'whats the deal with this' ? (like this post !)

The latter of the two.

It’s posted from time to time by people who have spotted it and some who have knocked the door to be told either it’s not for sale or a high price. As you say it could do with covering at the least.

Last I saw of that one it was for sale with photos that must have been taken on the way home from collecting it. Any idea where it ended up?

Apparently the st.Albans one has been sold.
All heresay, but the story I heard was 'guy was always getting people knock on the door offering £500 and he thought it was 20k worth'.
Someone obviously made the right offer as apparently its sold. Will it pop up here soon ? Love to know what state it was actually in.

Oh, and the bexhill one - most recent 2017. But it got a lot worse in the 8yrs between google shots...

The Bexhill one sold a couple of years ago, It instantly appeared for sale lashed to a trailer trying to hold it together for silly money. It was way beyond restoration and not especially rare, it will have been scrapped by now I imagine.

Having spent the past 18 months doing the metal work on my 68 I wouldn't pay anywhere near 20k.
If the floors are rotten the frame rails could be toast and as it's been sitting outside for so long there could be more rust.
Check the rockers and underneath the deck filler panel. Mine had gone in all these areas.

What's it worth? Sensibly no more than 5k, but the world of chargers moved on from sensible a long time ago. You know/have to assume you'll need to do everything to it, at least it looks pretty complete unlike so many of those dragged out of a US field jobs that have sold for 12-15k or more.

The seller obviously knows what he has and there are people out there spending silly money, so you are unlikely to get him down by much.

You know what needs to be done and what it will be worth at the end, it depends if that's the game you want to play.....
