So it's back to 1994

Post by Derek »

Look at the prices, it would seem the 50s car were the dear ones then. I wonder how many of the traders are still about now.

is that £3,250 for the 70 charger on pg2 ?

And £4,000 and £3,500 for the 1973 ones ! Guess the 'hollywood' effect wasnt a thing then ?

I bought the 70 Charger, thnen I bought the 68 that I still have now, I was on the lookout for a 69, just to be able to say that I had all 3 years but it never happened, I then sold the 70 to a guy in France, he drove it home and it never missed a beat all the way there.

TonyO told me that before I bought the 70 a guy had committed suicide on the back seat somewhere in Croydon, as soon as Liz heard that it had to go.

Now thats a bit of 'history' that most car owners never have to deal with. Tricky one that isnt it ? Although if herself demands it, not THAT tricky !
Probably best not to know...

The LHD and Classic section of the Autotrader😎That was the first port of call whenever I bought a copy. I used to love scouring the lineage in the local papers for the three misspelled lines that gave a hint of a sleeping behemoth.

Not sure I could hold on to a car that I knew had got that history,is it different with buildings? My garage is remembered locally for an explosion that killed a worker,it’s twenty years ago but it’s still mentioned. Additionally I know that a poor chap hung himself in the workshop before that.I sometimes stand looking at the rafters wondering what drove him to it.

Very sad. My ex Brother in Law killed himself in a beautiful old original Datsun Cherry on the carpark of the pub he worked in. This was back when they were cheap runaround cars. As a family, we decided it wasn't appropriate to sell it and so we scrapped it. I drove it to the scrap yard. Awful experience.

Anyway, back to Derek's post, sorry. I have loads of old copies of Hemmings and xanthe believe some of the prices in the 80s when our cars were just 'used'. I cant remember the exact price but there were Roadrunners etc for under $1000 in great shape
