Neat, would look better on some original Cortina / Escort wheels IMHO eg

(no, they're not mine, got the pic off Google)

Good size lockups too. Down one end anyways.

I agree Stu, great car but wheels ruin it for me. I remember my uncle buying a green one similar to this but UK spec at an auction in Scotland in the early 80s. I loved it, even with its 1300 engine! :D

Lockups are 20 x 10. there's about 30. Rare as hens teeth in the town. Only a narrow entrance lane (pic 2) so although a B body would fit in the garage getting it up the lane would be impossible. Agree about the wheels but each to his own.

There were a few South African/ Australian varieties of Ford around here in the 80s, I can recall a V8 Sierra, a couple of V8 Capri's which were called Piranas I think and a Mk3 Cortina with a straight six.

Very nice.
The South African's made the Perana Capri, there are a few over here now, saw some at the NEC last year.

A guy at college around 1980 had a brown Mk3. We called it a Mk3 'Wet sponge' due to it's handling characteristics.
Presumably a lot worse / more American than the Mk1 or 2 which i thought were relatively good?

and we could open his door with a 2p piece.

I had a white Mk3 when I was about 18 - a 2 door which were pretty rare and I loved it (about as close as we got to a Camaro or challenger over here).
I did it up quite a bit, fitted a 1600 X-flow that I rebuilt and put a twin choke Weber on it, happy days!

Some toe-rag stole it (probably with the 2 pence piece :D ) from a car park in Bradford needless to say police were not interested and insurance gave me about the 2p that the tealeaf used to nick it......always like those mk3's I have to say, that SA one looks great and yes FWIW I also agree about the wheels!!

At 18 and a student it was what I could afford :D - but I did(/do) think the 2 doors looked great, I thought about as close to a US musclecar as we had in looks....

wonder if that one has the Aussie and South african borg warner axle will probably be an M60 or an M75 possibly but unlikely M78 those numnbers being nominal size of ring gear in inches i.e 6 inch or 7.5 inch (7.8) or 7 3/4 inch depending on age will have 0600 0750 0780 part number suffix on ring gear

they are robust compared with Euro cortina axles

A MK3 is on my wife's want list. I have a MK2 but hope to able to add a pre-facelift MK3 to the collection one day.
