2018 was a challenging year trying to get the car to this point with frustration and joy in equal measure. First MOT last year picked up a few issues and although not needed, I’m glad it was done so it forced me to get things sorted. So, once the essentials were done and after months of pondering I decided to press on with the tunnel ram install. Wow what a difference it’s made I figured that as the car is already far from original and it already had a gaping hole in the bonnet I might as well tidy it up. I’ve also been busy with:
- new side exit exhausts
- new passenger and drivers floor
- repaired fuel tank
- repaired side marker lights
- removed heating (wasn’t plumbed or working anyway)
- high torque mini starter and battery
- billet MSD distributor and leads
- currently going through wiring.....

As a long term tunnel ram fan and user I agree, it makes a big differance. Personally I prefer to use double pumpers for maximum tunability, though I currently have vac secs on the Valiant as a temporary solution.

Hi Blue, it has vac secondaries and found both tricky to set up. Still a bit of adjusting to do as I have a small flat spot when I stand on it. Needs proper tuning with this and the new dizzy fitted. Had to fabricate a throttle linkage bracket as still using the old cable which is pretty short. Also noticed an improvement in cooling which is a plus.
The manifold and carbs came from an MMA member who was reluctantly unable to fit and use it for personal reasons so glad it’s found a new home. Also, my wife was getting annoyed with it sitting on the dining room table (I thought it was rather decorative)

Thanks Morgan, yeah dead easy install after some YouTube training. Used a borescope camera to find TDC rather than turning it over. Terminating the leads was pretty easy in comparison to the fuel hoses which left me with bleeding fingertips

Brad, you normally connect a vacuum line between the secondary diaphragm pots to equalize them in a 2 carb application. A small bog will tune out on the accelerator pump but a bigger one especially if its from cruise will need a power valve change in my experience. This is assumimg you've already got the timing worked out.

Good point thanks Blue I’ll give that a try and that may explain the bog. I’ve got timing sorted and got carbs currently set as per Holley recommendation. Hopefully won’t need to change power valves as these carbs aren’t easy to access.

Yes inline carbs are a pain, usually have to remove one or the other to access jets and power valves which is why I prefer them mounted sideways. Holleys recommendations work most of the time but don't take it as gospel, there are occasions when the formula for power valve sizing doesn't work, and tunnel rams are one of them in my experience.
