There's no need to drop the column completely, you just need to remove the two nuts from the support under the dash and one slightly further down the column under the dash, loosen the the two on the floor pan and you'll be able to lower the column enough to get the guage cluster outGlen63 wrote:I notice you did not drop the steering column, like everybody says you need to, is it possible to get rally dash in and out with out doing that ?

It’s a standard Dodge wood grain wheel but the rim’s not in great shape so it’s got a black leather cover on at the moment, not original for my car, I have the original which is a 2 spoke green rim blow wheelBryan wrote:Is that a standard dodge wheel or aftermarket?

I did drop the column GlenGlen63 wrote:I notice you did not drop the steering column, like everybody says you need to, is it possible to get rally dash in and out without doing that?
Although in some of the photos you can’t really tell
I tried 2 ways to do that
first was to support it with a box or something on the driver seat – ok but the box gets in the way when trying to climb under the dash
Second way which I preferred is to hang the column from the dash frame using some stiff wire, this way you can remove the driver seat for even better access
Either way you only need to drop the column about 2” and the instrument cluster goes out/in no problem

Used a very fine brush with some silver SmoothriteGlen63 wrote:Also when you say "Brake and indicator lenses polished and reinstalled, dash panel painted and lined silver" Lined silver, how did you do that ?
I chose the Smoothrite as it’s relatively thick paint so didn’t run into the grain on the bezel where I didn’t want it to
it’s easier than it looks to do
most of the areas to be painted there’s a clearly defined line in the moulding to paint up to

A 1st class job !!
Im going to do the same with my old dash when i get the time. I prefer the accuracy and reliability of my new ones though.
Its only up until recently that you couldnt get reproduction / restoration parts for some of our cars so you can understand why the previous owner fitted that instrument binnacle.

a new battery was required as the old one died
took the opportunity to clean up the battery area and put some fresh paint on the battery tray itself …
