Did you use anything between trunk floor and tank? Original felt stuff holds wet and rots floor and tank,I've used black plastic DPC in the past.

Headlamp Door Motor

a few weeks ago I noticed the headlamps were coming on but the doors weren’t opening

the car got a drenching coming back from MOT in August, was only used in daylight since then, I suspected this maybe connected

done some testing, disconnected the plug by the motor, with ignition on ...

headlamps off - black/red is live
headlamps on - blue/yellow is live

so all good on the electricery side

the thumb wheel on the bottom of the motor to open/close the doors manually was really stiff

a quick google revealed the lower bearing is prone to seizing up due to ingress of water

off with the motor

the motor drives in both directions open / close

when the doors are closing, black/red is live, there's a cam in the gearbox that disconnects the close circuit when the doors are fully closed

and then when the doors are opening, blue/yellow is live, the cam disconnects the open circuit when the doors are fully open

gear, cam, o-ring, gasket all look in good order …

the cam acts on contacts under the gearbox cover to switch the open / close circuits as necessary …

prising off the thumb wheel reveals a bit of grot externally, I think inside is where the problem’s going to be …

Did you try to manually turn the knob on the end of the mtr before you took it off,??/ they very often stick when not used a few good turns to manually open the doors useually gets the mtr working again,,

Similar thing happened to mine - lights coming on but grilles not going up / down. Checked vacuum pipes / motors and all was fine. Ended up being the rocker arm on back of headlight switch that had snapped off due to age and maybe the fact the dash had just been out and the switch wasnt quite sitting right on the new facia

yeah I got it freed up a little using the thumb wheel, and also got it to turn back and forth connecting across the battery, but there was still some resistance

inside the motor looks all in good order

the rust in the bearing area seems to be causing the problem

i’ll clean that up, pack with grease both ends and see how it goes …
