the RAINY CITY CRUISERS at the Old School BBQ Bus
Alford St, Hollinwood, Manchester, M35 0EH (M60 J22)
3rd Sunday of the month 10am

It was the first meet of the the RAINY CITY CRUISERS at the Old School BBQ Bus near Oldham on Sunday just gone

The sun wasn’t quite shining and still a nip in the air but there was a fantastic turn out and a great venue, folks brought cars from as far as Preston and Huddersfield, I also heard 1 chap came up from Shropshire just to take photos

Bringing the wild west to ... Hollinwood, the huge outdoor Americana BBQ, music and whisky bar that has grown from an old American School Bus, looking more like a Texan food festival than a restaurant, The Old School BBQ Ranch opened at the end of January in Oldham. A heated circus-style tent covers hay bales, tables made from reclaimed wood and tyres, and shipping containers converted into a live music stage and bar. The heart of the BBQ hub is the bright yellow American School Bus, converted into a mobile kitchen, which the owner used to start up his business, selling American inspired fast food at events and festivals across Manchester.

The business started in 2016 on a semi-permanent spot trading from a car park in Failsworth, but it got to a point where the business outgrew the space. They had queues out of the car park, 30 to 40 people waiting, so the demand was there. The new site on the corner of Alford Street is certainly not little. Corrugated iron covered in bright spray-painted murals surrounds the huge site, protecting the outdoor area from Manchester's elements. Next to the iconic bus is an outdoor pit area, filled with an impressive range of smokers, where they can prepare dishes such as 16hr smoked pulled pork, and 6hr smoked Texas style belly ribs. As well as the usual beers, soft drinks and spirits, the bar is stocked with bourbon whiskey and some potent South Carolina Palmetto Moonshine

The owner told me the restaurant was fully booked from 4pm both Friday and Saturday evenings last week. The American car meet takes place on the 3rd Sunday of the month at 10am, so breakfast was a bacon, egg & sausage butty, with a cuppa tea, for a fiver, and very tasty it was too!!

Patina, or rough looking, reminds me of my rat runner, although I wouldn’t want to be using that as my daily.
Cheers boys.
