For a stealth bomber the Blackbird was hard to miss

What got me was I was on one side of the hangar and was looking at an engine hanging from a wing....that was part of the Stratofortress which was nearly a 1/4 of a mile away! HUGE!!

The Beaufighter was in the resto hanger. Fantastic. Best plane for me was the under restoration Gloster Gladiator. Seeing under the skin of an aircraft is fascinating/mindboggling and makes restoring a Mopar look dead easy! Great day out!

The SR71 had a few interesting bits, did anyone else look in the front undercarrage bay? there were loads of signitures of the crew chiefs and pilots including one from it's first flight in December 1969 !

Another fab thang was Monty's caravans. Nicked off Rommel and Electric Whiskers. He would only give up his sleeping caravan for the King or Winnie. Anyone else had to kip in a tent.

What gets me about Duxford and other war museums is the humbling experience of it all. We owe our thanks, big time. Ball gunner position anyone?

You can buy copies of these from Waterstones book stores,
the ones they gave to the English going to France and the like....and the one warning the English about the Americans and their womanising ways, and wealth.

I agree with Kev very humbling experience. Looking inside the planes and seeing how little room the gunners had and how exposed they were
