Summit delivery FedEx tax

Post by Stu »

Just had a delivery from Summit via FedEx and had a text saying it’s subject to additional import tax. Anyone else had this?

The text number is the same as the number I was getting delivery updates from, but I’m not into clicking links on texts like that. Surely there would be an official letter or notice with the package if this was the case?

Just interested in any experience anyone else has had recently. Will be Bananarama! off it’s going to cost me another £50+ which was never mentioned. Never had this before.

it's normal with summit, i usually get an email saying duties to pay within a few days of receiving my parts. occasionally there's none to pay but i get to expect it these days. still cheap and super fast delivery times so it is what it is.

There is an option on Summit of prepaying taxes, duty… This way you get to see a true figure of what your final total will be

It was mostly the fact it was a text with a link for payment, rather than a letter or more formal notice. I never click payment or details links in texts or emails, so surprised FedEx would do it on this way, if it’s genuine.

Has anyone had this text type notification?

I've had emails and texts from shipping companies both genuine and fake. I always ignore the links and go to the company website direct and see if there are charges to be paid. if there are I do and if I can't find anything relevant I ignore it. Even if they have the correct shipment number you have been given, they can still be fake in my experience.

Ok cheers

Pretty much what I thought

Sadly, looks like my parts are going to cost me more than I thought.

I would check carefully even if you do find out its genuine. My experience of FedEx is not great - the calcs are sometime wrong, the phone service is non-existent since Covid (been in the queue for over an hour), email is poor too and if you do query a bill through the web channel provided they don't communicate properly internally, so while waiting for a query to be answered you end up on the bad debtors process. Very poor IMHO. I avoid any postage option using FedEx. But that's just my experience.
