Be careful as "Music Centres" and "good sounding" more often than not don't go together!! No doubt there are exceptions (IIRC B&O used to do these too) but they were generally pretty cheap and cheerful for those who didn't want to bother with separates, so know what you are buying if you go this route...

Love these, they just scream 70's.
I remember back then my mum used to watch the show jumping on tv (there weren't as many channels then), and there was a horse called 'Sanyo Music Centre'. Not so subtle way to get advertising past the BBC.

At the end of the day Dunc it's all down to budget!! You can easily spend £500 on a cartridge alone.

A set of Soundspans would do you - always fancied a pair myself. Rare as hens teeth over here though.

What's your budget chap?

Hi Duncan, it's the bit with the stylus (needle) in, that plugs into the arm on the turntable as far as I know.

Hi-fi is an absolute minefield Dunc - not only in quality but aesthetics as well. The NAD amp that Dave mentions is well
up to the job but in my opinion it looks horrid! Image below. (no offensive Dave).

There are literally thousands of different combinations so almost impossible to advise on what's exactly right for you.

Your best bet is to look through Ebay and find something you like the look of - turntable, amp and speakers.

I got the impression from Dunc's initial post plus the next few replies that he is after something like this, ie a music centre, not separates... :-k

(not mine, btw, just a pic off the net ;)
