Death of the petrol station

Post by morgan »

Interesting article on the BBC.
Echoes what Blue (I think) said - it'll be difficulty of buying fuel that makes this hobby tough !

It probably was me, and although that article is very much written from a pro electric viewpoint there is an amount of inevitable truth in in it. Once electric cars start to outsell combustion engined vehicles, difficulty in obtaining fuel will follow within a couple of years IMO. What might save us for a while is the inability to generate the amount of electricity needed and the fact that it could get very expensive when demand starts to outstrip supply. It ain’t over till the fat lady sings but I can definitely hear her clearing her throat….

Blue - yes, I thought that. Given it takes about 5 times more than a stock domestic supply to charge the thing at any good rate I thought there was a huge supply problem - but this just breezes over that. ? ( will dig out the numbers but it’s a LOT of electricity at a high rate)

Scooby - cheerful. Nice…

Edit - plus they will HAVE to be taxed. With my tin helmet on I’d suggest that given they all have telemetry we will be just taxed per mile as it will be known where and when we’ve been. The tax revenues lost must be replaced so the current ‘it’s so cheap to run’ just can’t be sustained

I heard a good or bad Electric car story the other day that made me laugh

Very new top of the range Audi all electric car 2 months old, refused to be charged, as the plug would not engage into the socket.

Apparently when they meet it is pulled in so engages and starts charging, so this automatic action has to happen before charging start,

Well it was not, so that was that. Audi had to come out and take the car back, few days later, car returned with reason for problem put down as:

"Dirt in the socket" ....................WTF was the reply from owner, and me and lots of others I am sure.

But apparently had a software update at the same time too ....................... so be ready for these Electric cars. :D :D :D :D
