Mopar Nats 2021 Reports???

Post by Pete »

Well, guys, back in the day people would be competing to put up the first post about the Mopar Nats that they had just attended.

Often there were 80 people logged on at the same time sharing pictures and stories of the great time they had over the weekend.

With that in mind, please feel free to post up and record your experiences and tales about the weekend - it is now much easier to post pictures than it was back in the day, so what is stopping you??

Keep it Mopar!!!

Love and peace, Pete.

Seeing as you are all shy, I will start.

The MMA decided that it was more appropriate if the "Paul Worrow Memorial Trophy" was awarded in some way to the UK Nostalgia Superstocks class at the 2021 Nats, and this will probably become a regular feature.

Working with Don Scott, Blue and I agreed that the trophy in celebration of Paul's life (and love of life) should be awarded to the Super Stocks Number One Qualifier.

In this manner there was the opportunity to present the Trophy and give a bit of background to all the Racers and their friends as opposed to any award that would be presented at a subsequent event and possibly with a lower attendance.

Here we see Paul Smail who was driving a Ch*vy ElCamino (all the way from Edinburgh) as the winner.

He was the happy recipient receiving the Trophy from "Blue" (aka John Pratt), one of Paul's closest friends and who's idea it was to obtain a genuine NHRA "Wally" Trophy to commemorate Paul.

Ok, here’s my little report. After an absence of 4 years I finally got back to the Pod. The Barracuda I bought off Terry last year behaved impeccably and took al the stuff I needed with space to spare.
I arrived Thursday afternoon and after a quick chat with Derek and admiring his collection of caravans ( wasn’t that a good idea!) I pitched up by the pits as usual. It’s a great spot as you get to chat with people as they drive by.
To me, as much as the cars it’s seeing all the people again and I can’t list them all here, but it was a pleasure to hang out, drink some beers and a special mention to my chum Simon Fann who pitched up with me and shared food, water and guitars!
The weather doesn’t need any more mentions, so to the racing. I though the Superstock class was outstanding and it made my weekend. My favourite period for racing and the quality of the cars and racing was outstanding, well done to everyone involved.
So many great cars but a special mention to Dunc’s Challenger and the Jim Smith Barracuda (as I call it) which were amongs a number of cars doing epic launches.
Well, enough rambling from me, so a few pics.

Cheers Miles, yep it's a long run from Cornwall but so worth it: great to see people (and cars) again. After a constant run from 2004 to 2017 I haven't made it for a while. Great camping food, blooming silly trying to remember songs in the dark after too many beers! Great to finally meet Sean Henstridge after a decade and more of Connected collaboration; always a pleasure to catch up with Justin and Jordan (Swindon Massif) and meet new people - Richard and Jeremy thanks for the chat in the fire up lanes and under the gazebo avoiding yet more rain, Jason thanks for telling the Moonshine story a million times with constant enthusiasm. Many thanks to all on the committee for having the stand at the show and keeping spirits high (or was that just Pete's bottle of Jack?!). Good to see the valuation service in full swing. Having the stand in the show n shine was a masterstroke and should be repeated if possible. Loving the high impact T shirts Mandie. Super quick 5 hr drive up, medium crap drive home but so what thinking of the memories passed the time. And I have a lot of good memories of this weekend. Sure rain was a pain but it was the biggest and best Superstock gathering, some amazing racing in that class. I managed two runs on Saturday - lanes so busy to do any more; got a PB for this car 14.3 so chuffed with that. If the video worked for that I'll post it later, meanwhile here are my pics. Best wishes to all, Simon

Having been stuck in the 14's since 2016, we took the Challenger to the nats with a view to running a 13. I had a Saturday track pass, but then rain stopped play. In recent years the car was plagued with minor transmission and traction problems, making passes difficult. So, I fitted a TCI street fighter with a 2500 stall.

Sunday seemed a washout at first, but the rain stopped and track dried by 3pm. Question was would we get a RWYB pass before the track closed?
With MT street/strip tyres fitted, got a run, but only a 14.6. Then, took another run with the exhaust cut-outs open, with little track time left. Crossed the line reving to the limit in 2nd.

Back at the pits, Jake (my Son) greeted me with the news it ran a 13.8 @ 101. What a relief, the 14's monkey of my back! I know there are many quicker cars out there, but I built the 340 with all gain no loss mods, primarily as a street car. It runs a 'tow truck' crane hydraulic roller cam, 10.5:1 closed chambered heads, a 770 Holley street avenger and 2.76:1 gears. I'm well pleased with the result!

A very different Nats for me this year, no report from me other than to thank the good friends and kind people I’ve met over the years for their time over the weekend. Fully appreciate I won’t have been much company, but believe me those who lent me some time at this one helped more than you can imagine.

Car behaved, for the most part, clothes still wet, trunk now drained. Hope to see folks at the HRDs.

This IS a great club and I hope won’t be lost to the power that is Facebook. I sincerely believe I couldn’t have done this weekend without the MMA.
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Good to see you and the Challenger Stu, albeit briefly. The rain kept everyone hidden away in tents and caravans, except you I think? (No I won't need my coat!).
