Bonneville Speed Week 2020 8-14 Aug.

Post by Bratfink »

It’s on. I don’t think we are going but someone is.

Schedule here: http://nebula.wsimg.com/a16b68b051ffefc ... oworigin=1

Streaming Radio Channel usually can be found at this link:
https://www.meridix.com/channel/?liveid=Landracing#/

Treat the radio feed like test match cricket, it goes on all day, listen in the background whilst doing other stuff. Previous years are there so you can listen back to get in the mood.

good to read it's going a head 8-)

i'm sure i read somewhere a year or so back the salt wasn't drying out like it used to and there was talk about the whole shebang moving to El Mirage

that would be a shame

Bonneville is on the list for a future visit

Bonneville 71' tells the story of Harry Hyde, Bobby Isaac and the Dodge Daytona that set records at the Bonneville Salt Flats after being banned in NASCAR

The SCTA already runs 5 events at Elmo each year. They are only weekend events though. People not members of an CA based SCTA affiliate club are only allowed to play with an invitation.

Despite Bonneville being run by the SCTA, the event is actually put on by an affiliate club called the BNI. BNI is the affiliate club that those not living in CA are allowed to join.

In order for them to move the whole event to Elmo they would have to open up to the entire BNI membership.

Day 1.

Salt condition looked good to mile 3 and got rough after. First couple of cars on track sounded shakey through the 4 but this actually seemed to improve through the day.

They announced that 300 cars had entered. However at one point the start line for the long course was only 6 deep. Very odd for a first day of the event.

Salt shark made a pass on Ed Umland’s record but was over 100 mph low. My presumption there is he was licensing.

Speed demon came out with the AA motor against Tom Burkland’s 417mph record. George Poreet’s first run fell short at 411. But came back later for a 421mph pass, he sits in impound for the morning repeat run.

My highlight was Jim Hoogerhyde taking Jack Costella for his final ride down the salt in the last car he designed. Jack passed earlier this year. He was a friend to us on Team Brine Shrimp and took a keen interest in our progress.

Well today was the day.

After breaking the motor twice and the differential once, Poteet put down the big number.

He Bumped Burkland’s AA/BFS record yesterday to 437, but he wasn’t happy. Today’s down run, 469 in mile 5 477 exit speed! Back in impound.
