At 320MPH the front wheel and tire will be spinning at 4889 RMP

Tire Surface Centrifugal Force will be around 7500 Gs  a force which is eye-watering.

At these levels, it is key to build a very strong and lightweight wheel with low mass.

To help balance the wheel we have designed that the tire Schrader valve will be very close to the center of the wheel.

The plan is to then drill a very small 4mm hole 200mm long down a wheel spoke from the tire air chamber to the center of the wheel.

We have machined the same mass air hole mass from all the other spokes so the wheel is well balanced.

Game changer

I can officially say that my bum was twitching like a rabbits nose over a plate of lettuce.

We successfully drilled the hole in the wheel and successfully inflated the tire.

It was wonderful to check the tire profile inflated as this was an unknown. These tires are special high-speed land speed racing tires and inflated to 90 psi.
It was great to see that there was plenty of clearance and the tire rounded over very nicely.

If you Look carefully you can see the stainless tire valve in the hub :thumbright:

Out of interest, how much do you expect the tyre diameter to grow at that rpm ??

I wondered that. Hopefully not too much !!

what? you're not fitting 3 more dummy valves equispaced on the hub for better balance? but then again they probably only weigh a few grams?

5.82mm @ 300mph

This tyre combination is well tested and tried at these speeds and has shown to be very reliable.

You are correct !

Calculate the gyroscopic forces acting upon the tire valve based on its mass and location on the wheel hub.

Then remove material from the hub to counterbalance the valve.

Also means it easier to get pump on valve down Asda

;)

We have also mounted the valve at a 90° angle to the Centrifugal forces as it’s not uncommon for valves to leak or pull open at these speeds using conventional valve angles. :read2:

Next up we made a cap for the master cylinder and made a clear plastic brake fluid reservoir.

This will allow me at a glance to check that both front and rear brakes and my clutch fluid levels are correct :)

Thanks fella :salute:

I have never been able to tig weld aluminium I have tried a few times and never could do it very well

A Lincoln 255 ac/dc came up on eBay for £300 with a fault and I couldn’t resist!

I swallowed the brave pill had a bid and won it

hours later I got the welder rewired and it’s working well.

It’s not my proudest work but a I made a Mk1 fuel tank.

And practice makes perfect ... the tank is 3mm aluminium

After I found a few pin holes it held pressure for days.

It will get me going until I finalise bodywork

We had been working with a CAD Technical drawing that I found online.

It seem that the online file had some anomalies and some measurements where up to 10mm out....

There was only one thing for it so hours and hours were spent having the engine measured using a Cordinator measuring machine.

Now that we have a very very very accurate drawing of the engine we made rear engine plates to hold the engine in the frame.

These can be unbolted and removed to allow removal of the engine

Due to the first bad cad file one of the plate we had to make again  #-o
