Progress!
Pin out, it was in a bad state!
Bushes out- carefully cut with a hacksaw to relieve, then a very sharp chisel.
New bushes now going in, pressed in the vice with a die turned by my mate John.

Nice work, just need to carefully ream the bushes to size and you’re ready to reassemble! I try to get the bushes to a size that the pin will just fit with a light hammer tap.

Blimey,last kingpins I did was a 1948 Austin 16! Adjustable reamer and get it straight!

The thing I'm mainly not getting is that the reamer blades are slightly tapered, I expected them to be dead parallel.

Paul, does that reamer have a screw on extension and a widget to locate the other bush? You not only need the bushes to be the correct size but you need them to be parallel to each other. The correct kingpin reamer passes right through the stub axle and has a sliding fixture that centres you up on the opposite bush, you ream one side and the turn it round to do the other.

All done, back on the road

I found a local old-skool engineering shop to ream the bushes for me.
The disc conversion was pretty straightforward to fit except- the new m/cyl is a bit longer so some trimming and bashing was needed.
Also the caliper fouled the lower shock eyes so I relocated them with handy brackets I had knocking around. (Though apparently if I'd mounted the calipers forward of the discs that wouldn't have been a problem. I might move them one day).
Happy to report a dramatic improvement in braking, even though I need to bleed them again and they're not bedded in yet. A bit of effort is needed for hard braking, but not enough to bother with a servo.

Great work, I have avoided king pins so far.

We have fitted that disk kit with success as well, really worth it.
