Engine and box out, trans was leaking and it's the only part of the car I've not had apart. Engine had an oil leak that I'd failed to fully rectify in situ and then an aftermarket pan and crank scraper turned up at the right price so that was it. Crank scraper has to be trimmed to suit which takes a patient couple of hours. Finished it off with a late model one piece gasket and Milodon nuts and studs, hopefully it's leak free now. On to the trans Tomorrow....

Transmission in bits, this is a 999 which is a heavy duty 904. I'm putting in a reverse pattern manual valve body so bought some billet servos as I've seen the stock cast ones crack with the higher line pressure. The multi spring pack replaces the single large single return spring in the front drum which can lose tension at higher RPM.

Thanks Steve, I'll have a go at most things, you just have to accept the fact you might not get it right first time, but that's how you learn. Anyway, engine and box back in and on with some of the smaller jobs, update coming!

How did the engine run with the whiplash cam installed ?
I must have missed the running up the engine part

It runs well enough, not much vacuum and quite a rough idle at around 900rpm. It's supposed to work with a stock convertor but I had my doubts so used a 2500 which still seems a bit tight to me. I think my combination is still a bit off, I have a new carb coming and I think I should really be using a dual plane intake, it's lacking low end power right now. At this point I'm not convinced the money wouldn't have been better spent on some high compression pistons, but it does have 150psi cranking pressure which is high for 8.5 to1 compression. I'll report back when I've made some changes.

I starting back on my 318 Dart next year. I have bought a whiplash cam about 4 years ago for it , along with heads, air gap, and a quick fuel 600, although I may drop that a go for FI instead.
I was interested in any feed back on the whiplash, although its a bit late now I've bought it.

1st job is rebuild the auto box that's been on my bench for 4 years.I must look out your 727 recipe you kindly gave me.

Been a while since an update, seem to have less time these days than when I had a proper job! Trans fully rebuilt and engine dropped back in a few weeks ago. Wet flatted the bonnet this morning in the hope I'll get it on the car over Christmas.

Thanks Dorian, hope you and the family are doing Ok.
So, this is what progress looks like apparently, New bonnet on and a big old strip down to access the hinges so I can replace the standard springs with the new low tension ones. Online research suggest the new springs are actually standard fitment for a Dodge Daytona. Desperately trying to resist the urge to re paint the panels while they're off....
