I did think about that, and adding wings to the rear of the sump to compensate, but when I put in 8 pints of water to test for leaks . I don't seem to have removed that much volume capacity :thumbright:

I will however have to re calibrate dip stick measurement :?

From what I have read, the 318 takes. 5 US quarts = 8.2 UK pints. With the galleries and the Oil filter .

I should be OK :-k ?

maybe add a bulge to each side to compensate, although myself i probably would've notched the rear of the subframe and left the sump.

This was something I had in mind , if the above immage didnt work out OK :thumbright:


I do want to take a little out of the subfrome also, for ajustment :thumbright:

The alternative is to do what I do on the race car, which is to over-fill it by 1 quart when static.
I put 9 quarts in the Challenger.

5 quarts still sounds light to me.

Once the motor is running, there is more oil in the top end than there is in the sump!!!

looking at that pic i'd definately add a 2" wide-ish horizontal plate across the front of the sump 'well' with just a small cutout at each front corner of the plate for drainback. this will stop the oil sloshing forward under braking and uncovering the pickup. if you can make the plate a 'u' shape so it covers the sides too without interfering with the pump/pickup even better. as long as the plate isn't higher than the front/shallow part of the sump then you will be fine with crank/rod clearance.

I don't think you've removed much volume either, unless you're going to be screaming the nuts off it I wouldn't be too concerned. Good call on limiting slosh though, if there's room you could add a plate over the sump area with a big hole in it for the pick up to pass through and some gaps around the edges to allow for drain back.

No nuts will be screaming , just a plodder :thumbright:
you say that now........
and re the pic with the yellow bit yes but more. as blue says if you can do a complete cover with just a hole big enough for the pickup to fit through that'd be the best. the more you can keep what oil is in there around the pickup the better.

Well its in !!!! \:D/ heads rad and manifold, its a bit close to the crossmember mounts but nothings rubbing,
well apart from the heater box ;) But thats no biggy .

This means its going to work and theres nothing now that can get in the way to stop the build Happy Day :lol:

There are still some things to sort out , Hydrollic clutch' clutch arm' crank end bearing and the exhausts , But these are just things to sort not size issuses and fitments :rr:

Thanks Guys ,

This is the near side header , which I have found out fit on eather side of the engine :thumbright:

I did a trail fit on the OS first which has more room, as the engine sits at a 10mm offset, to accomodate the drivers foot-well being a wider on the builk head. Meaning there is more room that side for the header :thumbright:
