Those 2 were like that when I bought them. I normally sand with wet n dry to about 800 grit then I use solvol autosol metal polish. I use that with a multi layer cotton cloth disc type thing with an m6 bolt through the middle so I can put it in my cordless drill. With aluminium every time you Bananarama! the shine will get better and better. :thumbright:

383 Tunnel rams are around, I've owned at least 3 of 'em over the years.

MattH wrote: Tue Mar 26, 19 12:49 pm Wheels look really good, I have 2 sets of slots here for my Aussie Charger, one set is the factory fit, all need to look shiny like yours. Where did you get them done?
I have tried numerous places that advertise "we fix any alloy wheel" pictures of bent and mangled things turned back into wheels again

none of them will fix mine

for our ROH slot mags the finish is supposed to be fresh off the lathe

you wouldn't think it would be that hard to find a place with a big lathe who could take 6 2-3 thou cuts off the face of a wheel....
literally edge bead, edge, offset surface, face at spokes, face at centre 6 positions of the cutting head and 2 different tools

but all they want to do is bead blast and paint or coat then cut highlights..

my protestations that if you can cut highlights you can do what i need, seem to fall on deaf ears

alloy too old, wheels too old, its too risky or 200 quid per wheel

" you just don't want to do it do you...." that is correct sir. sorry....

we don't even need a wheel reconditioner just a bloke with a big lathe a chuck that goes to the size of the centre bore and some common sense

hi dave,
i used lepsons in kent to diamond polish/face some slots mags that had been sand blasted some time ago. they were no more expensive than the same job on any other alloy wheel.
neil.

the tunnel ram arrived today (the 2nd, correct one thanks dave :thumbright: ) so it's be rude not to sit it on the motor for some pics. the plenum looks to have been port matched to the base which'll save some work. i'll replace the hex head bolts with nice rounded button head allen bolts too.

so i decided to make a start on the straight tube axle for the valiant today. i got the mk2 ford transit axle ends complete some time ago. they're from a twin wheel mk2 but other than solid discs and 2 pot calipers they are the same as earlier mk3 transit too (they had vented discs and 4 pot calipers). what i needed to do was cut the twin wheel mounting 'bell' bit off of the hubs and turn the face flat, then countersink the bolt holes for the disc mounting bolts and drill the pcd i want in between them on the face. i cut through about 3/4 of the way on the lathe then used a slitting disc for the last bit. i also cut the ribs off with the grinder before using the lathe to flatten the face properly. i've measured and marked the face to drill the stud holes but i've got to get studs so i can drill the holes the right size.
next i need 2 bosses to weld to the tube i have, so i cut the end off of the axle 'stump' with the grinder and welded the cotter pin hole before i turned it down 'til it was all the same size. i'll strip the other side apart tomorrow and get the machining done.
