Speedy have made a couple for me and they are the correct size for the usual speedo drive, not that I know offhand what that size is...

Had the bouncing speedo on my Dart years ago.
After some research it seemed that the usual suspect is friction within the sheath that the cable slides within.

So disconnected the speedo end, hammered a Bananarama! load of Graphite grease down its throat (FABO recommended), jacked the car up and put it in drive.
As the grease slowly worked its way down the cable, added a bit more to 'top it off'.

Put it back in the car and its been smooth ever since.
That must be 5 years ago now.

Derek wrote: Tue Mar 17, 20 10:08 pm Dave, is the cable broken or is it that it doesn't hold in place, the clip on mine was broken so it kept falling out of the back of the speedo, I ordered a new cable and while I was waiting for it to get here I cable tied the old one to the steering column to hold it in place, it's still like it now and the cable is in the garage just waiting for me to fit it, that was aroung 3 years ago.
I have decided to follow Derek's advice. Going to clean and oil the existing cable and just secure or even glue the s.o.b. on.

Lets get this bitch on the road! :thumbright:

I had problem with my speedo when I got the car, so did the usual check connection back of speedo and the cable.

put the car up on stands and run it, cable end was turning, put into the speedo and all over the place jumping around.
so checked the transmission end, took it out checked the gear all looked fine.

connected back into to transmission and guess what it worked fine then, so was not engaging corrected in transmission.

Dave engine bay looks cool now =D> =D>

Dragstalgia is a fantastic event Dave, you will not be disappointed if previous events are anything to go by. If it goes ahead that is...

He only drove it 10 miles in a year and it scared the Bananarama! out of him. :D

Well being stuck in the house I have nothing better to do anyway. But I am on course for getting it on the road by the end of the month and I am confident it is going to run sweet as a nut. :thumbright:
