RHD '68 BARRACUDA RESTORATION

Hello all,

I've had my Barracuda for about 5 years now & have been lurking on here in that time, so I thought it about time I shared some build pics.

It had been stood forgotten in a garage for 35 years when I bought it, being sold by a family who were clearing a deceased relative's property. It obviously needed lots of work & any parts which could perish had perished years ago, however it wasn't as bad as it could have been & I liked what I saw. I love the styling of these Barracudas & liked the fact it was a RHD car. It unfortunately came with no paperwork, but Matt helped me greatly, confirming it's identity & allowing me to get it registered with the DVLA on it's original plate.
Apart from initially stripping the car, I've had it stored away without much progress untill about 12 months ago when I decided to get my arse in gear & get on with it. Even so, it's a gradual project worked around family life & available funds.

So a few pics of the car when I bought it:

I knew there was a fair bit of grot here & there so I had the shell blasted to see what I was dealing with. The inner wings (behind the suspension turrets) were shot, along with sections of front footwells, floorpan rear corners, sections of lower wheeltubs & lower quarters mainly. Overall though no real nasty surprises & I was pretty chuffed. A thick coat of old bitumen underseal has preserved the underside surprisingly well.
I took advantage of an A body panel sale at AMD & ordered inner wings, boot floor dropoffs, lower quarter panels, full rear panel, inner wing splash panels etc which came over via Ron Fenton.
I was lucky enough to be given space in a mate's unit over winter so I've cracked on with cutting out & welding in, fabricating various sections when needed. Not to the same standard as some of you guys, but I'm happy with how its going so far..

When not working on the body, I've been working my way though some of the smaller parts, sourcing replacements, refurbing/painting, having parts blasted/powdercoated etc. I'll not go through everything, but a few pics of various parts I've done recently:

Thanks both.

Been following both your builds, impressive stuff!

Blue, I noticed in your thread you showed your O/S inner wing that'd been crimped on the corner, mine was exactly the same, same spot. It's surprising seeing how roughly these things were slapped together when you start dissecting them!

That's a coincidence Lee! Yes these cars were a bit chucked together, the Hemi A bodies and wing cars even more so.

Good see some progress pics Lee. You were telling me about all the little details at that small show at Croydon (Cambs) this time last year.
You got that Paxton hooked up to the Mustang yet?
all the best, Stu.

Sorry Lee, there must be 2 RHD Barracuda's undergoing a detailed resto. Come to think of it, the other is a 69.
Great work btw.
