International Harvester Travellall. Should I buy it?

Post by db »

It's not quite the van I was after but I'm very tempted!
It's a good price and fits my budget including Ron shipping it back from Washington.
It's partially dismantled as they were planning to repair a cracked head, it includes all necessary parts and a spare set of wheels & tyres.
It's very solid, very original and (in my twisted little mind) very cool!

Parts are scarce but there are a couple of suppliers, although... $299 for a used turn signal lamp anyone  !
I'd be very tempted to transplant a Mopar sb and flog all the I.H. running gear.

Pete- I already know what you're going to say and you're probably right... ;)

Yes I know what you mean Andy.
As it stands, $2000
Fully rebuilt $5500
They're selling for $5-10k

All in with shipping approx. £3700 to my door. A few weeks of head scratching and rebuilding and I could have a rock solid, cool as hell people carrier!

Or a big useless pile of bits and a nervous breakdown

I would worry about missing parts & the unobtanium that they might be made of, you won't see another one over here! Looks like a Standard Vanguard on steroids

Very cool, and no one else will have one......................and there lies the problem.
It's one of those thoughts that pop up in your head, and you only think of the good things about it.
But in reality, the bad things totally out weigh the good things.
I know , as I do the same..................... ;)

All the things that should tell me not to buy it are the very things I love about it!

I hate my brain sometimes... :?

See, now I'm 50 I'm getting all sensible.

Normally people telling me NOT to do something would make me want to do it all the more!

Now I find myself agreeing.

Have a look on the UK hotrods & customs for sale page on facebook, there's a '58 chevy van project that might float your boat...
