NSS

Post by pete walton »

Its been a long time since i mooched around this site and i am surprised to find this little corner of it so quiet .The NSS has grown into one of the biggest supported classes in the UK attracting close to 50 car fields with some of the best prepared muscle cars in the UK but on here ...not a mention ,nothing ,niche ,narda not even so much as a chuffing sniff ........very sad

Pete, it is probably because a great deal goes on Facebook, with the NSS having their own page too.

Just thought it would have been popular on here ....not a mention of some of the small victories that have been won by racers in the class and some members on here ..Duncan running a ten second pass on a 383 for instance ,,,some might not get that but that is stella ....Clive Dandridge running an 11 s run in a full weight 67 smallblock Mustang ,,,,Mike Lacey running 8.9 in a stock sprung Camaro with no power adders,The Willaims Bros taking a car to the US and taking on the best in SS in there own back garden even qualifying 1st in there floor speed Nova and setting a class record ...On here not a thing .............

Great stuff Pete. I guess the guys taking part are too busy building and racing to post on forums.
Thanks for the pics.
NSS seems to have taken off really well in quite a short time, the front cover of Classic American was pretty impressive.
This year is obviously an odd one for everything, maybe there will be a few NSS events in the latter part of the year if the tracks get re-opened?

Great stuff, thanks for sharing the photos :thumbright:

For me, I know nothing about superstock or for that matter any of the other classes and can't really offer any input to a discussion.
I didn't start going to any drag meets till a couple of years before Shakey closed and its something I wish I'd done sooner.

With the closure of Shakespeare where does the racing now take place? Is it just Santa Pod? or are there other meets around the country? I believe York has raised enough to resurface an 8th mile strip.

Is the white and green 340 one that was in the tent at Dragstalgia last year? That was a great looking time-warp bit of kit.

It is/ was a 360 with a 4 speed 74 car, racer since new retired 1979 not seen daylight until I bought it a couple of years ago, with buying the Rod Shop challenger I decided Dave was the man to own restore this 74 car and it will be a beast, he will no doubt fill you in on the details

Cheers Dunc,
Challenger was a proper time warp, some clever tricks on it,but although the body as no rust, all the paint was falling off.
So,fully bare metalled,repainted as it was in 1975,360 and 4 speed stored for another day,build a 451ci on 400 block,728hp,727 trans with all the best parts,5500 ATI converter,Dana 60,4.56 gears,New shafts,spool,bearings,brakes,New chromoly cage,Gone through everything.
This will probably be my best race car to date, you guys can decide when we finally get to the strip :( I should be done by August,so approx 12 months to build

Wow that sounds the business Dave 8-)
I was wondering tho, with NSRA's supposed 1972 limit at their events, does that mean you wouldn't be able to race at Dragstalgia - or would you just not both with their events? Or twist someone's arm.. ;)

Either way, cant wait to see it... next year :(
