Which starter motor for my 572 coronet

Post by andyrob »

Bust my starter motor at the nats for my 572 coronet, there lots of high torque mini starters available, and all over the place on price, the mini starter I used didnt turn the engine over very nice
I had to get the engine turning before flicking the ignition on,
whos used what for a big cube motor ???
This msd ones get great reviews but is alot of ££££

I think that is what I had in the 572 and it ripped 4 teeth off the ring gear on the Convertor. Plenty of Torque.

I would always use a Starter saver device on such an engine, it is not a Mondeo.

130 teeth is normal for Mopar Andy, I would have assumed it would be that. I have no experience with mega blocks so I don’t know if it’s normal for them to have a larger ring gear count due to clearance issues? Duncan, Dave B or Hauser’s will know for sure.

I have a mega block, and it has been ground away in the starter motor area....

My KB ran a 130T Ring gear/Flex plate. I have been using the Mezziere starter, like Pete, I had to slightly clearance the block.

FYI When I upgraded the starter, I ran a separate earth directly from the battery to the starter, made a big improvement. Motor span noticebly faster.

I have ignition retard via the ECU for cranking
