Sounds like dodgy contacts to the rear - are rear bulb holders sound/clean ?
If it’s flashing the front it can only really be breakdown to rear. Sounds like flasher unit ok so somethings fallen off somewhere - or crusted up.

Do hazzards (sic) do anything ? e.g. are the rears getting anything at all ? Is it just individually they fail or just dead whatever you do ?

if the front indicators are flashing and you do not have the indicator switch set to flash either? do they work properly when the switch is set to flash left or flash right?

i.e do you get front and rear left flashing or front and rear right flashing?

if they just flash regardless i'd suggest investigating the switch wiring in the column something has been nicked or pinched and is shorting out.
or the wires to the fuse box have been Yanked and the connectors there are touching.

do you have hazard lights? if you do is it standard on your car? or has someone added it ? I'd suggest an aftermarket fitment of hazards is a likely candidate for the cause

on Morgans point I think you have dual filament bulbs in the rear lamps , covering braking and indicator duty?? these have an offset bayonet fitting to make sure they only go in precisely 1 way.
be good to know they are in properly. its worth just cleaning and making sure the holders have not been deformed by someone shoving the bulbs in the wrong way, shorting the 2 circuits together.

check also that something heavy in the boot, has not slid and scraped across any wiring in the boot. on low end cars the wiring runs across the boot floor in the area behind the wheel tub then across the back to the lights
a dodge is a bit more upmarket maybe they did something better

for a circuit to be on when the switch is off
one of two things has happened. a power supply has been created that wasn't there before or a circuit that is always powered now has an earth connection that isn't via the switch... both triggered by a short .

in your circumstance you have 2 front indicators flashing but no rear....
1) switch either the indicator switch or hazard switch and the wiring between
2) something at the rear is shorted and the front is the symptom
3) its linked to hazards the indicator circuits are 2 circuits you have half of 2 circuits working, which is weird, the only place they are linked in any way in normal operation is at the switch or via the flasher unit used for the hazards

cheers for that have helps me a lot dave

with the indicator switch disassembled entirely so its not touching at all the flasher unit is going and both front indicators are flashing and the rear arent at all, the indicator switch isnt right at all not clicking properly when put to neutral and just doesnt feel right at all when it is assembled . if you put indicator switch to left both front are going and left rear , and if you put it to the right (passenger side) the front two indicators are going and the rear isnt , im lacking brake lights also but thats the switch at the pedal got that disconnected just now till i get a new one, not had chance to get into it yet .

switch or the wires from it

but you can't necessarily say that it is, as it needs to be bolted onto the plate in the top of the column to work properly
should have the switch for indicators. the cancelling cam and tabs and a roller for the horn contact on the bottom of the steering boss or collapsible can.

from my experience with A body switches when new they feel like activating the switch will snap something the last click into Turn left or right is very tight until you get the stalk mounted...leverage makes it feel more normal.

you can get parts to overhaul but might be easier to get a new one...but keep the old one if you get one with all the wrong wire colours then a translation from old to new needs to be done

it will be this one
https://www.classicindustries.com/product/md2139.html chrylser

or a saginaw switch used on GM Mopar and others

sm-9 style is Chrysler sm-15 style is saginaw used by Chrysler on some models

and all of this is for none tilt column

https://www.classicindustries.com/shop/ ... %20saginaw

http://www.mymopar.com/index.php?pid=109 there is a 69 model year dodge factory manual here which will have the wiring diagram i doubt much changed on the indicator front 68 69 70

Glad you got sorted. Belt and braces, I would fit small earth leads from the bulb holder to the body to rule out any future earthing problems. Once it's done, you can test by taking the bulb holder out of the rear lamp housings and they should stay on.
