Thermostat

Post by Steve »

Can anyone recommend a good UK supplier for thermostats please? I'm after a 180 deg one for my 68 383 but my online searching just brings up really overpriced stuff. I don't really want to pay £25 for a £3 thermostat!

Great advice thanks Pete. I have some 195 Stant ones that I picked up in a Rockauto 'flash' sale but think they will make my engine run to hot?? As you say, £3 at the most. I'm only changing it as I have a small leak from the thermostat housing so while I will have the system drained (new bottom hose to go on) I would be as well putting a new thermostat in. If it's like everything else on my car, it will be the original one. The housing has obviously never been off. If all else fails, I will just put the old one in until I can find a reasonably priced new one.

I bet there is a perfectly suitable alternative available for a 1998 Honda Prelude for tuppence halfpenny!

Thanks again Pete, kettle at the ready! :D

Modern cars all run much hotter so finding a 180/185 stat is one thing. From memory pretty much all British cars from the 60s /70s used the same style stat as we use for our cars and the temp range should be about right if that helps. Customville will have the correct thing at sensible money I would imagine.

Thanks to Stu, I'm sorted! Thank you very much, appreciate all the help.

I will do some research on the back of Blues advice and see if I can source alternatives from UK classics and post it up to help others. As Pete told me years ago, 'Google is your friend' :D
