904 Front clutch seal Help need advice

Post by ScottyDave »

Needing some help/advice.
I began to overhaul the transmission for the Charger today. Started with the pump, stripped it down and found some sludge inside, rotors look fine as do the bushes. So I cleaned it up and replaced the front input shaft seal, reassembled and fitted new outer O ring then put it aside.
Started on the front clutch next and because of the sludge inside the pump I thought it best to take the piston out of the basket/retainer to clean it out.
Removed both inner and outer seals, put a split in the inner removing it. No problem thought I theres new seals in the kit    now here is where I have hit a snag. The new seal is not as deep as the original.
So I'm not sure it's going work and not wanting to carry on reassembling only to discover it doesn't work once rebuilt I thought I'd post a couple of pictures to see what you lot think.

Original is on the Left, new on the Right.

Been having a look around the web etc and although I've not been back in the garage to check, I'm thinking that the new seal is for a servo.
So I'm in the hunt for a Inner piston lip seal if anyone has one laying around.
