I have seen ball joints "repaired" to get them through an MOT before. Cut open, packed, and tack welded together again. Just tack welded to save from melting the plastic bit. Obviously these can come apart in time.

If that lower ball joint passed through an MOT any wear in it would have been picked up easily during the test. So there is a chance it was bodged at some point to get through.

Or it could be just a faulty part as already said.

Never seen one pull apart like that before, must surely be a defective part? Only other thing I can think of, if the torsion bars were cranked up high, so that the upper A arm could be hitting it's bump stop, that would be trying to pull the lower joint apart....

Common wear and tear fault on older unserviced Mopars, this paticular problem.

The lower balljoint is always under load from the torsoin bar, so hard to check for wear???

As previously mentioned, IT HAPPENED TO ME ALSO!!!

Would recommend always changing these if they look old and unchanged in recent years!!!

Bozobacca. once bitten twice shy!!!
