My 1970 Chevrolet Nova

Post by James777 »

I bought my Nova directly from America having only seen a few pictures of it. Something i probably wouldn't do again... Having been told by the seller that it was a 'great car' and that 'it would easily pass the MOT', it failed the MOT on over 100 points and the MOT fail sheet runs to some 11 pages.

There is some good news though - i only bought it for £2200 and i am told engine alone is worth that money. I thought i would share a few pics of it as it is now and maybe post some pics as it progresses.

I'm thinking of spraying it red with black stripes.

Let me know what you think.

a fail sheet eleven pages long... Crikey James I can't think of that many things for a car to fail on!

Nevertheless, you can't complain at that sort of money and I love Novas, especially a 396...proper muscle :thumbright:

I think you need to find a friendlier MOT man for a start :?

love Novas, that was cheap! Best dive in and see what needs doing and as Johns sez, find a more sympathetic MOT guy.

Thanks for the comments guys. I reckon this won't be ready for another 5 or 6 months. The garage that have the car at the moment are doing a great job and are really reasonable price wise but they are not working on it full time.

I doubt i will get to any meets or shows until next year.

Dave81 - The car was sold to me with the following comments -

'The car is a 1970 Nova has a small block 350 aluminum angle tip heads, roller cam, roller lifters, roller rockers, edelbrock street tummel ram, dual 600 carbs, after market fluid dampner. Eagle rods , eagle crank, turbo 350 tranny with 2800-3200 stall convertor, everyday driver. 373 possy rearend.'

If i'm honest, with some of that stuff i have no idea what it means...

I am told that all this translates to 'fast'. At least that is what the MOT testers said.

Apparently the 'everyday driver' part also translates to 'death trap on wheels'. The brakes didnt work, the chassis was not properly connected to the frame...

Anyway it is on the way to being a great car.
