Fifty shades of Jade
Its not a mopar and i hope its ok to use the mma as a platform for this build.
Ever since someone on this forum posted up a picture of a 1980s drag bike i have been fixed. And feel its my calling to run this
Yes i know i should finish other projects first but might be to sensible to ride this then.
So in 1980 a man called Angus Mcphail built and race a drag bike called Jade warrior it went sub 8sec
Im in talks with Angus and he is pleased someone is trying again.
The orginal bike was made of alu and the fuel has corroded it badly also it used a 1970s F1 rear wheel and tyre 13x17 You just cant get a Tyre this wide any more . so a new bike with new parts will be built.
Bodywork work we made from the original Jade warrior molds

First issue is bike sump is a deep V so made up a new flat sump. This will also help for mock up as the engine now sits at the correct angle.
After welding the sump was machine flat and pick up and return where also shortened.
The sump may be shorter but oil capacity is up 0.9l

Yeah I remember it very well, I thought it ran an early Puma/Yamaha engine.
The hub centre front end was the same as the one used by that guy who built all the covered specials in the early eighties, was it called Polaris or something? Ivor and Mart can tell us cos they both quite old
Good luck with it Will, I'd love to campaign a top fuel bike in the next few years

Making chargers go fast cost big $ and hoping that jade should give the buzz on a budget.
Look forward to the progress on both!

Fabulous Will !!! I loved the Jade Warrior, such a bonkers looking beast but very clever. It'll be brilliant to see it reborn
Any interesting bike-related engineering, I'd speak to Chris Ireland (Desperate Dan) Recently seen on telly taking his Indian to Bonneville, but famous for decades in the biking world for building innovative and original trikes and bikes and several unique engines.
I doubt anyone knows their way around one-off bike frames better.

Best of luck and keep us posted!

Not promoting, just stating that Jon Webster does some nice bike stuff, frames, suspension, etc .
He does quite a bit of development for bikes, his recent 4 bar on a bike loooks intersting
Nice to have something to keep you occupied Will

I was gonna build a CBX 1000 trike years ago and phoned him regularly, I was going to get him to build the frame. He had some great ideas but I never got it together sadly. He used to sell a chain-to-u.j. converter in a neat little frame that you could just bolt behind the motor, brilliant!
