Engine rebuild tolerances needed

Post by Anonymous »

Just stripped my 360 and need to check some tolerances.
Piston ring gap in bore
Connecting rod sideplay
Big end/main bearing max tolerance after plastigauge measurement
Neither onf my mopar texts seems to provide these tolerance figures.

Sorry miles , i can find loads of info on performance tolerances but nothing on standard engines , you could try phoning a good engine builder who knows american cars ( ICE automotive are verry helpfull) , but if you are striping the engine it would pay to put new rings and bearings in , and possibly a crank grind , i would do this just for piece of mind.

Stock motor.

Ring gaps: Compression rings .010-.020 @ 2" down bore
Oil ring rails .015 - .062

Rod clearance .006 - .014 "

Big end tolerence .0005 - 0015 "

Mains as above

Thanks Guys, I can measure 025 across the bores with a new (standard) ring. Funny that cos the guy who sold me the motor supplied new rings thinking the bores OK! Also, the plugs were a real good brown with no sign of oiling hmm..
I'll check the bottom end manana.

Just fit total seal file-to-fit rings. That should keep you running for a while before it really needs a re-bore.

yep, i'll re-check tomorow as I only checked the ring gap about an inch down. not in a rel hurry to re-bore just yet.
