I believe what you meant to say is that the previous owner must have fitted it as all you do is add antifreeze and oil and where to put fuel!Trigger_Andy wrote:The Insurance company might be interested to hear about this mod as well. In light of my recent smash Im doing everything by the book in the future.
It was days after the Jeep was hauled away I realized I had a chip under the hood for better BHP and Economy. Luckily I had disconnected it due to Diesel knock. Not sure if they have even noticed it yet but as I have the cheque now maybe its to late for them to do anything anyway?

Looks good Gary!!!!
One thing I will say though, is that I've yet to hear of any mods like this that increase MPG on modern NA cars.
Better throttle response is always a given though and induction roar is worth it alone.
One of the best mods I made on my old MR2 was this.
The induction roar before turbo purge was intoxicating......needless to say my economy went down!!

Yes, that is correct. I am not very good at explaining myself.

If you look in pic 1 you can see the air pipe that comes from the grill to the air box. I have retained this pipe and it is derectly on the side of the cone filter ( about 1/2" away). So it does get direct cold air from the front.andyrob wrote:not so sure about this, you are now sucking air from the hot engine bay instead of cold air been rammed in from behind the front bumper, looks better though
I did initially remove the pipe creating a direct flow through the grill. However any rain , splashed water could possibly soak the filter , so I replaced the stock pipe.
As I said in my first post it does require a heat shield to become a proper cold air intake. See how it goes. It me be upgraded.

From what I have learnt Andy the stock air filter flows great. However the pipe work and path of flow are restricted It seems they were designed more for sound deadening , rather than performance.

The K&N replacement filters are about £60

A K&N cold air induction kit about £265 !!!!

Definitely better throttle response.
Really noticeable at lower revs. Didn't get chance to give it some welly due to traffic conditions.
Mpg unchanged. It does take a while to give the average mpg. Took about a week to settle after I re set it before.
Induction noise only really becomes apparent after about 1/2 throttle.
Wifey nicks it now and again so I will see if she notices anything.
