middle axle is M78 VH-early CL its a 7.8 inch ring gear 9 inch drum braked axle with spring pads that align with aussie valiants after 71 and US B body mid 60s to 1970

smaller one is M75 VE-VG 7.5 inch ring gear it has spring pads that align with 67-72 dodge dart as well as the 68-spetember 71 Valiants

make a cracking axle for a Cortina or Escort if shortened
used in these cars in Australia behind 3 litre 6 cylinder

The M75 is mots likely to be 4 inch PCD (early mopar)
the M78 is 4.5 inch PCD later big mopar/ford

the centres in both are the same in dimensions
only difference really is 0.3 inch of ring gear diameter

both take 25 spline axles
both can be upgraded to 28 spline axles
both can take a 25 spline or 28 spline sure grip centre
both can have a 28 spline LOKKA installed
both can take a KAAZ plate diff centre
Both can take a torquelock (true track) centre

parts are available from G& J diferentials in Dandenong Victoria or MOTOSPECS in Sydney

brakes are available from Sunbury Brakes in NSW

the 9 inch brakes are the same in every aspect as US valiant brakes apart from the stud spacing on the back plate.

M78 axles were used in chargers and Chryslers in Australia that were equipped with the 340 and 360 engines

they were used in Nissan skylines in Australia

and behind some Cleveland and Windsor equipped fords

also used behind chevy 350 in the 82-92 IROC Z and the Transam Ta

90-92 Chevy axles are a source of disk brakes
but its easier to use the ford stuff form an 08s or 90s Aussie falcon

no probs

under valued axles by all apart form Australians

work quite nicely with a LSD/sure grip cone centre
the 25 spline axles open centre works fine provided you don't do burnouts

The Cortina and escort boys spend a fortune building up their standard axles

when the aussies had a standard M75 one that worked behind a nice big six cylinder

and GM used the M78 as a heavy duty axle in the Camaro/firebird

those cars got a mix of 10 bolt dana 44 and M78

the US chevy guys call the M78 a GM 9 bolt

RATECH in the us do rebuild kits as well all the shims and spacer you need

www.9bolt.com supply aussie parts to US customers

I'd just get my parts from Australia but 9 bolt.com has some nice detail

Geoff Houser built up mine, the process to build is much like a dana

The M series axles were made by BorgWarner who were taken over by BTR (brtitish Tyre and rubber) who were taken over by Spicer Axle

axles made from 6 inch to 9 inch ring and pinion

anything that fits a Vl-VS holden commodore fits an M75 M76 or M78 provided you swap to SAE28 spline axles.
