Headlight circuit
been out in my CJ for 1st time after dark & found the dipped beam lights both randomly go off & on. Wiggling the switch has no effect so I'm thinking there is a relay somewhere ? Does anyone have a wiring diagram please ? Thanks shaun

Claen the fuse holder connections under the dash. My indicators often stopped working and wiggling the fuses in the holder seemed to do the trick, they corrode up quite easily, so need a clean and put back.

your headlamps high beam is controlled by a foot switch
my guess is that the plastic connector that plugs into it is not in a good shape
take it off clean it up add insulation so it doesn't short out to the floor or the clip that holds the dip switch to the floor.
you may have relays
if you do and they are original they will be up near the battery and the screen wash bottle
they will be silver metal boxes with fuses (the pastel coloured fuses that look like sweets for robots) underneath and they will be hella Australia
try wiggling the pull switch in the dash, they often need a clean out
the knob comes out by pressing the rivet like button in the middle of the metal side of the switch
check how many pins the switch has and buy one on ebay
same switch used on valiant holden ford jeep (up to 1995) and many US mopar
you just need one with the same pin outs think there are 3 similar switches

Re: Headlight circuit
just been reading the handbook ! Quote "the lights are protected against short circuit by a circuit breaker built into the headlight switch, A short circuit will be indicated by the fluctuation of the headlights when they are on" this is the fault I was having & I was thinking faulty switch but I've noticed one of my sealed beam units has gone black inside so maybe it's overloading the circuit.shaungriff wrote:been out in my CJ for 1st time after dark & found the dipped beam lights both randomly go off & on. Well worth considering a conversion to relays as it just uses the wire from the switch as a low current 'trigger' and keeps all of the power out of the dash switch. Here is a copy of the one I planned and made up for my Polara
