V8 onto manual box?
Is it feasible to drop a V8 onto a manual gearbox that used to have a slant 6 on it? Probably daft question, but if you dont know the answer, best to ask eh.. thanks in advance.

Re: V8 onto manual box?
Ok thanks--presumably a 318, and not a 440?
Re: V8 onto manual box?
Can I pick your brain again? Would the same apply to an auto, or do the bellhousings not interchange? Thats a 3.6 slant 6 auto, and putting a 318v8 onto box?

Its the same with the auto box there are three different boxes one for the six pot, one for the small block and one for the big block. although the six pot and small block 904 auto boxes are basically the same as are the 727 auto box for the big block and small block.

Thanks again! So if I can get hold of a 318 bell housing a 318 will go on to a 6 pot box.

Re: V8 onto manual box?
the only thing that might be a fly in the ointment is the size of the input bearing retainer
4.35 inch 4.8 inch or massive
obviously if the bell housing register is 1 size and the bearing retainer is another you might have a bit of fun
you can usually go up 1 size by boring the bell housing, or swap IBR. or you can get a centering ring made if the bell is too big for the retainer
318 bell is likley to be a bellhousing for a a833 box
the box to bellhousing mounting on a A833 is different form the various manual 3 speed boxes.
way too much stuff about mopar 4 speed manuals and Input bearing retainers can be found here

Re: V8 onto manual box?
the bellhousings do not come off an auto box
unless you use a saw or a grinder. integral part of the case.
australians have chopped the housing up and have alloy welded converter housings or bits of them at least, from Borg warner 35 and derivative boxes to facilitate a mopar 904 or 727 box and some other engine combo with a starter in a raised position to avoid headers, you need a good jig and someone who is a bit special in the realm of tig welding.
case should really be empty, welding current flow and ball or roller bearings don't seem to get along.... and the face that mounts to the motor will need a skim and potentially a gasket or spacer
so you can't fit a 3 speed or 4 speed bellhousing onto a 3 speed 727 or 904.
if you had an australian six cylinder it would have had a borg warner 35 behind it called a torqueflight C in Aussie Chrysler parlance ... you can swap housings onto them to facilitate engine swaps, but you'd need to drive it nicely with a 318 or bigger and it usually involves drilling holes for dowels.
