Re: db's 66 Belvedere
Luckily, despite my fire extinguisher failing (IF YOUR EXTINGUISHER IS OUT OF DATE, REPLACE IT!) I got the fire out in a couple of minutes using the hosepipe we keep nearby. Amy called 999 and the fire crew arrived about 5 minutes later.
It could have been so much worse- another 5 minutes and the car would have been a fireball, it was parked next to the house... doesn't bear thinking about!
The insurance engineer is coming on Friday so we'll see what they offer, I'll see what I can repair/ replace myself and what I'll have to get professionally done.
It's still not all sunk in.

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
That is terrible news, after all the work and time you spent on the car.
Looks repairable, just a crying shame to have to go through so much of it again.

That's awful Hope you get it sorted quickly
Re: db's 66 Belvedere
I have only just seen these Posts.
I am SO sorry for you, Paul.
Heartbreaking after all the effort you have put in to the car.
I am sure you will bounce back just as Derek did after the Charger fire.
At work I introduced a formal Checklist to ensure that all steps and precautions had been performed before any Start up was attempted, especially if we had to break the cam in. This covers a full Fuel system test before we even crank the motor over.
Wishing you all the very best, and as Will says, the important thing is that nobody was hurt.

Sad to see Paul after all the hard work!!
Been following your posts on it for sometime now!(too far away to help you I'm afraid)
Hope it all comes back together soon - was it fuel that caused it??
Pete - maybe you could post that checklist you came up with???
Regards
Kev

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
terrible news mate. but fixable with time, glad you are all ok and so is your house
at least nobody hurt and you now know how you react when it all goes a bit wrong,
Quick thinking hose action saved the day.
fire is scary
I too learnt a lesson just a few weeks ago. managed to put it out.... and of course won't be doing that again (house based rather than garage based)
you have a split second choice, freeze with the terror of realisation, or crack on getting it sorted in a business like way.
take some comfort from the knowledge that you did the latter and now know that you can make some sensible decisions when under some serious unexpected pressure.
you really don't know how you will react until you are.... right in it.

Sorry to see this Paul.
Agree with what others have said.
Hope you get the insurance payout and it helps to take the car to the next level.....trying to find the positive in the situation.

Re: db's 66 Belvedere
Sorry to see this but as others have said at least nobody got hurt.
Seems old vehicle fires are not uncommon, I too have experenced one. My 87 GSXR developed a pinhole on the base of the tank directly above plug #2 ignited as I put it away in the garage, luckily daylight was fading and I noticed the glow in the fairing... my garage is under the house.
Hopefully we'll see it reborn

It's taken a while but it's looking a bit better now
Still need to swap the windshield and replace the wiring but it's mostly fixed now. My mate Steve did a stunning job of the paintwork
