ok, on to the floor where the chimney breast used to come up from downstairs. basically we layed a bit of 3/4 ply over the area to cover the brickwork and built the wardrobes on that as a good level base. today ive been trimming the floorboards either side back to the next joist and laying bits of floorboards with packers on to the brickwork so i can lay a cut to fit bit of ply in place to complete the floor all on the came level. we ordered new laminate flooring last night so that's my next job when it arrives.
oh and i've just bought another a/c system to fit in our bedroom like we have in the lounge. it's the 2 part setup like offices have with a unit outside on the wall with pipes going in to the wall unit inside. i wouldn't be without the one in the lounge when it's hot like today, but i guess it's spoilt me.

I bought myself a portable Sawmill. Mostly to mill my own timber but I make it work for a living as well.

Lately Ive been milling up Larch for Fencing around my property but on Monday I was Milling some cracking Oak.

Love the figure in that second pic, I see some nice guitar body blanks there, either one piece or book-matched depending on the size :thumbright:

i've fitted a ceiling fan light in my back room (office?) this morning, much better than the noisy pedestal fan we had there. also ordered 20 x 1 metre lengths of rebar off ebay to reinforce the 'footings' along the side of my new garage over the road. i't's about 2 foot 6 inches higher at what will be floor level compared to the other side of the gravel boards where the garden used to slope down towards the house. i'm going to lift the top (3rd) gravel board up slip some steel plate with a 2 inch lip over the second and drop the 3rd back onto the steel. the steel will get fixed to the rebar which i'll drive down into the ground about a foot back from the gravel boards and it'll all form part of the 'footings' stopping the slab pushing/bulging the gravel boards out onto the garden below. as the slab and footings will be pushing down onto the plate that's hooked over the gravel boards it can't go anywhere.

back to the 'new' garage over the road, last night i marked a level line round the boundary fence so i can start pegging the ground for shuttering to lay the footings. last night you ask? yes i bought a cheap rotating laser level off of ebay which is cheap. ok indoors but out in the sun not so much. and then there was the battery saga, it takes 4 c type 1.5 volt batteries which is all well and good but i only had aa's or aaa's. aa's are the same length but much slimmer. what do you do when you're impatient and you only need to mark out this one job? roll some cardboard round each aa battery and they fit a treat. so over to the 'plot' with the level on it's tripod and a torch to see the bubbles so i could level the level and a sharpie to mark the concrete posts all round the perimeter. job's a goodun.
today's house update..... we're changing the radiator in our bedroom for a tall narrow one to give more wall space for the new furniture so planning ahead (like i do) i ordered new rads for the kitchen and dining room too. my justification is 1, i need to finish grouting behind one of them 2, the other ones got a rusty patch 3, they'll match the other new ones in the lounge and hallway and 4, my mate only has to drain the central heating system once to change all 3 rad's (the sizes are slightly different so there's pipework to alter).

i've been umming and ahhing about whether to a, get one of those 'we mix you lay' concrete companies in or b, use my mixer and do it myself at my own pace. not one to rush things i've opted for b, so i've ordered 5 bulk bags of ballast and 40 bags of cement to be delivered wednesday so i can get the footings done. it should be more than enough........ we'll see. my daughter's volunteered her boyfriend as labour too as he's still off work, result.

this evening i had a bonfire over the road, you know it just wasn't hot enough already. all the stingers and other sundry weeds i pulled up last month had dried nicely so didn't take long at all to crackle and pop into oblivion. tomorrow the ballast and cement arrives and friday a local reclamation yard are delivering a dozen used 13ft scaffold boards so i can get the footings shuttered up ready for concrete. it's all go you know :D
