Battery dress up
I got fed up looking at a modern battery in my car so bought a dress up kit off the Internet. Took original stickers off and after a good clean and degrease, new stickers and caps on. Will put it in the car tomorrow and put some before and after shots on. I took my time with the caps in particular as they need to be in a perfect straight line. Taped a paper edge along the top and marked it where the 12 o'clock on the caps would go.
I like it. I didn't know until I had ordered that they do an embossed 'deluxe' kit. The two stickers are actually stick on embossed and come close to looking like they are actually part of the battery case. Next time maybe but for now, I'm pleased with the look.

Thanks Pete, glad you like it. A cheap little touch I think just to chip away at the details.
I took the aircon out (or Harley engine as you once called it ) as it never worked and was really cluttering the engine bay with unused plumbing etc. I can now get to various bits that I couldn't before so decided to just spruce it all up a bit without killing the originality completely

Re: Battery dress up
I never knew such a thing existed.
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Re: Battery dress up
Same here Stu. I knew about battery toppers but they were always a bit to expensive. Worth a browse of the website, some nice stuff on there and it's nice quality

Yes looks great Steve
I'm familiar with the battery toppers which are quite expensive as you say.
But what do you get with this kit - is it just the caps and the decals?

Re: Battery dress up
Yes Rob, the reproduction caps and stickers. They do a deluxe kit with plastic 3D relief stick on panels that look even more authentic. Lots of different makes too ,not just Mopar

Re: Battery dress up
Looks good Steve - though not sure it would work on an optima!
Re: Battery dress up
Not sure Dougie, it depends on the set up on the top of the battery and if you have a flat surface to put the caps on. I'm sure it would be unsuitable for some batteries though I believe they do screw in caps too.
On another note. When I put the caps on, I did a dry run and my OCD wanted to clock the caps so they all faced the same way. They looked fake like that so I put them on randomly and they look real. Just worth noting if you go for a kit.
Cheers Steve

Re: Battery dress up
Cheers Matt though it's got me started on the engine bay
I have always been irritated by the fact that there is old battery acid damage on the top of the radiator support panel and the front brace that holds the hood lock etc was hand painted black and not body coloured as it should be....you guessed..... 3 days later.....
Just need to finish the spring. Couldn't get it out of the brace easily so will paint it by hand

Nice work Steve. It's the little things that make a big difference.
I'm doing similar work on my son's Firebird this weekend!

Re: Battery dress up
Yeah, I agree Matt. Just chipping away at little bits here and there all adds up to the overall look and feel of the car improving. I'm keen to not lose originality were I can help it so I masked off the original stickers on the radiator support. Would look daft with new repro ones on compared with all the other original bits. The rad support panel should be body coloured all over but will leave it satin black for now. Maybe a future job but no rush

Re: Battery dress up
Well done Steve, the detailing under the bonnet to include the battery cover really enhances an already very nice Mopar!
