Vehicle recovery best choice

Post by Ian Z »

Hi chaps,
After a poor experience with the 3 letter company, which recovery club do yall recommend. 2 classics and 2 dailies. Good Recovery would be my priority. Cheers

i fell out with the AA due to having to argue the price back down every year relay on 3 cars, home start on one, euro cover on another was getting silly expensive. old customer and offers advertised not applicable to me... Bye Bye
now with RAC
once RAC have ramped price up and up and up, like the AA did over a period of 5 years
i'll go back to the AA as a NEW customer which is daft considering my previous loyal 30 year stint with them and that was due to my dads membership since 1959.. still have his AA box key... :)

ive called for help about once every 10 years i.e 4 times with 4 cars in 30 + years.

i liked the AA, relayed me from sheffield to London once, no problem.
I didn't like the sales guy who said if you don't like the price you know what you can do...... THAT got up my nose.
Made a previoulsy NICE company seem like a bunch of.....

I would definitely NOT recommend RAC. I was with them for decades, but the first time and only time I needed them they said the Coronet was too old, too long and too American. They refused to recover me and charged me £250 for the privilege of attending. Needless to say, I didn't renew.

All mine now have add on breakdown cover with the insurance. I think it's Green Flag by any other name, i.e. a network of local agents. Only needed it once, and I couldn't fault them. Recovered the Coronet with courtesy and care. Even helped me push the car up the drive into my garage.

My Mopar crapped out on me yesterday. Phoned GEM and I was low loaded within 40 mins and taken home. Had the same with my T4 last year. Excellent service.

I've had that many times with the RAC, Guy  They say they need to send a patrol vehicle to assess the problem for themselves, then arrange the correct recovery vehicle. Which on a few occasions has taken 6 - 8 hours :banghead:

Are you saying the AA dont have a problem with our size of cars? :-k

Had a Challenger at the time , timing chain broke at Billing one time a good few years ago and a proper 7.5t transporter turned up , and have not needed the relay system since . What they would make of the Impala towing a caravan is any bodies guess !
Hopefully will not need them ......... and I don't want to talk it up either :-#

I think its luck
AA send man in van as well.... or did last i called.. about 6 years ago "why didn't you ask for a transporter" I did....
Oh i must have been sent due to our estimation of your danger.... not the worst place to get stuck is it?...

car was well off the road and i was sitting in a field reading the paper, in the early morning sunshine... :)

ive come to the conclusion all can be great and all can be rubbish.. luck of the draw on the day...

Ive found

Its about the size of an XJS or a 7 series BMW an easier way to land the message that its big.... but not (computer says no) BIG with call centre staff

RAC have been good for me, mostly......
Been recovered back from France with a caravan, twice, so definitely got my money's worth.
Also its part of a work employee perks deal so not alot of cost, and they cover over 10 year old cars, be careful as alot don't.

Most classic insurance policies include recovery. I've used it a few times with no problems from a couple of different insurers...
