Will be watching this with interest.

cool project, don't discount the explorer 8.8 axle. cheaper than a 9" and comes with 31 spline shafts, lsd and disc brakes as stock.

Re: Matt's 1970 'Trans-Am' Challenger
Not too much to report here, but some progress is on the cards.
Can't do much on the car without an engine and box to mock up in position. I found a Jerico box fairly local last year, but crate LS engines have been unobtainable for a couple of years , with no end currently in sight.
So I gave up waiting for a crate, and will go the slightly more expensive route of building an engine from scratch. The upside is that the finished product will make more HP - around 600 if all goes to plan. John Sleath is doing the build .
Summit fortunately have ally blocks in stock . One has been ordered and should get here this week. Everything else is more or less available. John will build the engine and tune it with a FuelTech ecu, which will include all sorts of data logging possibilities generally for the car - G forces, suspension travel, etc.
The car has been buried in the corner of the workshop for about a year. I got a few days off work last week, tidied the workshop, dragged the car out of its corner, and bolted on the wings and bonnet for a bit of inspiration. I'll order the steel for the rollcage next week.

Excellent! Are you going CDS or Chrome Moly for the cage?

No pressure!
Have you decided which look to go for yet?

I am expecting to go CDS .
My understanding of using Moly is that the higher strength of the material would allow an equally strong cage to be built out of thinner-wall tube, and save some weight. However the thinner wall tube would not be legal under MSA regs . Will do some more research though.

Well they say if you want something done, give it to someone busy.
Looks like I now have a 610HP, dry sump, fuel injected, all aluminium LS small block.
Better crack on with the rest of the car I suppose...
