Post by 68Charger »

I took the wheel off the charger today and the brake drum has a spring all the way around it which doesnt seem to serve any purpose that i can see, anyone know what its for ?

I had the same on my front drum brakes and took them off then changed to disc.

But never knew what it was for.

They are to aid heat dissipation as far as I know. Got them on my A108 camper.

i think the idea of the spring is to dampen harmonic resonance and hence reduce or eliminate brake squeal

i believe common on drum brake cars of all makes of the era

my Charger is drums all round and doesn't have the springs, presumeably sometime in the last 53 years they've corroded and fallen off or suffered from some workshop delete process (lost) during a service
