Re: Essentials
points or igntion module
cap rotor
fan belt
set of plugs
throttle cable
fuses
a collection of wire and crimp tool and crimp connectors
cling. no adhesive style, insulating tape
cable ties
pipe clips/clamps big and little, jubilee if you must turbo tube style best
and a bent coat hanger for exhaust mounting
big bottle of SAE30 which will work on both my engine and gearbox although i only use that stuff in my gearbox (manual and australian) your requirments may differ
and a big box of nuts and bolts and screws.
i.e all the stuff you have left over when you purchased a kit to do a job and discovred you didn't need all of the kit.
i also carry a small trolley jack as i don't trust the daft bumper jack in the boot. if you do have to use it put it on the bumper where the bumper support bolts to the chassis and no where else....
if you have no hazzard lights get a rotating emergency flasher with a magnetic base you can sling onto the roof starksey and hutch style when it all goes wrong on a smart motorway

Re: Essentials
I think I’ve ended up with a full restoration kit in the trunk…
When I’m on the road and short on space I carry a travel type set of 3/8 drive sockets with a small ratchet and screwdriver handle, a couple of adjustable spanner’s, a utility knife, cable ties, gasket paper and a tube of goop.
Spare thermostat, some oil, atf and a multimeter.
Anything more serious than that can cope with and it’s a call to come get it.
All that said, I’ve built that up through needing each bit at various points and I invariably need the next thing I don’t have.
Oh and tape. Mucho tape.

24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not…

Re: Essentials
All of the above plus a fuel pump, rubber fuel pipe, top and bottom radiator hoses and at least one axle stand. I also have various bulbs and a box with washers, split pins, and some nuts that Im pretty sure wont fit anything on the car. I also cary a long piece of electrical wire with a big crocodile clip on one end and a small one on the other end to 'hotwire' the coil for fault finding and to get me off the road if needed in an emergency.
My dad always said it was 'better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it'.
